Hodgepodge

Another week has flown by. I finished the manuscript I was working on. See the cute mile marker. Writer friend Taryn Raye made a whole set of these, in two different designs, for me a couple of years ago. I'll bet she thought I lost them. I still have them, Taryn, and thank you!

Anyway, I finished the manuscript a couple of days ago and now I'm busy ripping out its guts and rewriting. Sounds gruesome, doesn't it. It's a dirty job, but somebody's gotta do it.

Speaking of gruesome... Hubby killed a copperhead in our garage yesterday evening. OUR GARAGE! I'm so freaked out. It's going to take a while before I feel comfortable again. We've always treated the garage like it's an extension of our house because it's attached. We've got so much stuff out there. And to think there might be something more hiding amongst all our boxes and bins. Brrrr! Gives me the creepy crawlies. Hubby says he's afraid to go prowling around out there now, too, and will have to wait until the dead of winter, when it's zero, to look through everything. This would not have happened if we still had Little Man. Since he's been gone, we're overrun with wild critters. At any time of the day, you can look out and find squirrels, rabbits, chipmunks and (it seems) every kind of bird on the planet frolicking in our yard. By all reports we've heard, snakes are plentiful this year, too.

In other news... My son will be moving back home in a couple of weeks. He's been wanting to come back for several months now, but the lease on his apartment isn't up until the end of August, so he had to stick it out, work, pay rent, and wait. I'm thrilled that he was responsible enough not to walk away from his responsibilities and do what he wanted. After a year, it will be yet another adjustment for hubby and I. While we're happy he's coming back home, we've also gotten used to him not being here. It's hard to believe it's been a year already.

  1. Congrats on finishing your MS! I typed "The End" last Friday and have been editing/revising for the past week. Sometimes it's fun... other times it's frustrating. But it's encouraging being this close to being done!

    Copperhead? GROSS!!!!!

  2. OMGoodness! LOL

The other day I came across the folder on a disk I have of old stuff off the computer that crashed a few years back and saw the tags I made for you! I laughed and thought the very thing you said- that I figured you probably didn't even have or use them anymore! Seeing you post today made me laugh right out loud! :o)

And I'm so thrilled that you hit "The End." It's always an amazingly surreal moment, each and every time.

Ewwwww! on the snake, especially that it was a copperhead...blech! I saw a rat snake in our hedges earlier this summer, but I didn't have the guts to kill it, and probably just as well that I didn't, he was probably helping control the mice population down here (the story my hubby told me that our older neighbor told him about hitting a nest of hundreds of mice across the road from our house while mowing while I was out of town this summer nearly made me sick!)

Your picture of Molly is absolutely adorable, BTW! (I've got to start catching up!)

  3. Hey, Devon, Congrats on finishing your MS! What a great feeling!
Gotta watch those critters. A 9 year old girl down the road from us got bit by a Brown Recluse last week. She's doing ok, but still in a lot of pain and hasn't started school yet.
Seems like all the icky stuff is plentiful this year...

  4. Thanks, Amy! Congrats to you, too, on finishing! I don't mind edits. I find it much easier to slash and rewrite than to face a blank page during the initial process.

Hi Taryn! It's so nice to see you over here again! Yes, I still have the tags. :o)

We've had three snakes this year, which is three more than we've seen the past couple of years. But this is the first time one has invaded inside our territory. They were always out in the yard before.

I need to post a new picture of Molly. The one I have up was from when she was still young.

Hi Jennifer! It's nice to see you here, too! It's been a while. Ew, that's awful about your neighbor. I hope she gets better soon. I'm thinking the snakes are bad this year because of the heat, for whatever reason.

Thanks to all of you for stopping by and helping me celebrate "the end!"
